On several occasions over the summer, the subject of drone videography kept popping up. This intrigued me, and prompted me to start researching drones and the types of businesses you can get into with them. I’ve learned about flying as a hobbyist, versus flying as a commercial pilot. I’ve researched FAA rules and the steps needed to get a commercial license. And I’ve also watched hours of training videos on flying your first drone.
After all of this, I still had an interest in pursuing this as a possible career option. The only problem was that I still had never flown a drone before. So of course, I bought one! I have no idea whether this will lead to anything, but I’m going to continue pursuing it until I know it’s not for me. I’ve already thought about business ideas, business names, and how to market this type of business. Will it work out and be profitable? Who knows. But I feel like it’s something that I have to try in order to find out.
So today, I took my first drone out for a flight as a hobbyist. My first goal was to not crash it. And I’m happy to report that there were no crashes. I need a lot more practice in order to make amazing videos and pictures, but for it being the first time out I’d say it was a success.
