The Goonies was one of my favorite movies growing up. And is STILL one of my favorites. It’s one of probably four movies that I will watch on TV whenever it’s on, no matter how many times I have watched it! I dare you to try to name the other three!
For many years, I had wanted to go to Oregon to see the Goonies’ house. A while back, people could walk right up to the fence where Chunk did the truffle-shuffle. However, you are no longer allowed on the same street as the house anymore, so I knew in advance that I would have to view it from a distance. And I was completely fine with that. I knew the approximate location, but it took me a little bit to find it. Once I moved to the right viewing angle, there it was! And images from the movie came flooding into my head. Even from a mile or so away, it was still a cool experience to see. Because if you are like me, you thought everything in The Goonies movie was real. Like that water slide that led them to the pirate ship. Come on, don’t tell me you didn’t want to ride that thing too! With all the movie themed parks and rides lately, someone needs to open a Goonies themed park and let us finally live out our fantasy of going down the water slide, and then climbing aboard the pirate ship and walking the plank. Who’s with me?
I also got to see the beach at the end of the movie when the Goonies make it out of the cave. Seeing Haystack Rock was just as cool as the house, because it made things feel real, even though I knew the pirate ship wasn’t going to go floating by. It was fun to imagine it though!
